AGL recently chartered the MV Icelandica Hav for a round-trip moving granite stones from Sweden to Portugal and then returning back to Sweden loaded with different granite stones. The stones are mined in different geographical regions and thus have variations in color and hardness. This results in different grades of stones moving south and north.

Each granite block weighs up to 25 tons. The round-trip takes 16 days including loading and discharging in three different ports.

The outbound vessel was loaded in Lysekil, Sweden and discharged at Sardoura, Portugal while the inbound trip went from Sardoura to Surte, Sweden.

Sardoura is a river port in Portugal and deadweight of the vessel is connected to the draft in the river. Therefore 1.950 tons was the maximum cargo weight possible for each direction.

This is a prime example of a win-win-win situation: lower cost, less environmental impact and full utilization! For the customer, this was not only the most economical but also the most ecological way of serving both markets with just one vessel.
