Start

In the middle of August AGL started delivering the first steel segments of the Lock Gates, with units weighing up to 74 tons and dimensions of up to 5.8 m. The segments were transported using multi-axle-trucks that are 56m in length. We picked them up from the German manufacturer’s site and transported them over a distance of 700km to the German Baltic port of Sassnitz and further to the island of Ruegen.

In Sassnitz, the individual segments will be assembled into 3 huge lock gates, which will replace the current locks at the German port of Brunsbuettel, the entrance of the North Sea-Baltic-Canal. This mega construction will take 3 years to accomplish.

AGL is in charge of a total of approximately 160 special transports with heavy lift/OOG-segments over the 3-year constriction period. After assembly in Sassnitz, each gate will have dimensions of 48m x 10.5m x 25m (LxWxH) and a weight of 2.250 tons.

Upon completion, AGL will deliver the gates using 96-axle-SPMT’s from the assembly yard to the pier (See technical drawing for details). We will further arrange lifting into the water with one 1.200t crawler crane and one 1.200t floating crane.

This is a perfect example of logistics at its best! AGL shows once again that their portfolio is much more than just transport from A to B.
